After Jarvis Kord failed to take over Hub City, he escaped to a secret island facility hidden somewhere on the Great Lakes by a cloaking generator. Powered by several nuclear reactors, Kord constructed an advanced utopian complex, his vision of peace.
However, Kord was unhinged and thought peace could only be attained by his absolute control. Two years later, with Blue Beetle Scarab, Kord activated his army and started the countdown to launch them. Blue Beetle (Jaime Reyes) and Batman couldn't override the system so they overwhelmed the reactors instead. In a matter of minutes, the island was destroyed.
