Carter Hall is a superhero in the DC Universe and the first Hawkman.

Origin

Millenia ago, in the country of Egypt, Prince Khufu and his lover Princess Chay-era found the extraterristral Nth metal, which allowed the wearers to fly. They were kind and just rulers, but they were repaid for their loving rule by death at the hands of their corrupt high priest, Hath-Set, who stabbed them with a dagger forged from the same Nth metal as their belts. However, the energies of the Nth Metal prevented their souls from passing on to the afterlife, thus forcing them to be reborn into different lives, to fall in love and die all over again. In 1940, archeologist Carter Hall learned that he was the reincarnation of Khufu via a series of dreams, and swore to avenge his and his lover's deaths. Forging wings and a harness out of Nth metal, and donning an orange hawk head mask, Carter literally took to the skies as Hawkman, saving his reincarnated lover from the reborn Hath-Set, now known as Dr. Anton Haster. Later, Shayera (the reincarnated Chay-era) became the first Hawkgirl, and together, they battled enemies natural and supernatural either alone or as members of the Justice Society of America. Recently, Carter has come out of retirement to help train a new generation of heroes alongside the rest of the JSA.

Powers

Hawkman posses no superhuman powers, but the Nth metal in his uniform grants him the following abilities:

  • Flight
  • Telescopic Vision
  • Superhuman Endurance
  • Accelerated Healing

The only ability he does not gain the metal is the ability to speak and understand the language of birds.
