History

Origin

Dr. John Watson was born on August 7, 1852. Originally, Watson was attached to the 5th Northumberland Fusiliers and later served as an Assistant Surgeon of the Army Medical Department (attached to the 66th Foot) in Afghanistan. He was injured at the Battle of Maiwand in the line of duty, rescued by his orderly, and discharged.

When Watson first returns from Afghanistan, he shared lodgings with Sherlock Holmes during the last two decades of the 1800s at 221B Baker Street. In his attempts to discover the profession of his taciturn companion, Watson becomes Holmes' confidant and solves many cases together. Despite having different methods of evaluation and personality, they became close friends and Watson emerged as the assistant and biographer. In their career, John Watson met Mary Morstan, who became his wife. It is rumoured that he had multiple wives and often boasts "an experience of women which extends over many nations and three separate continents."

While he doesn't have Holmes' brilliant yet emotionally-detached analytical mind, Watson is well aware Holmes' reliance on him as moral and physical assistance. He is naturally open and straightforward, while Holmes can be secretive and devious.
